BRIGHT - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

This week over on the Daring Cardmakers Challenge blog, the prompt word for the festive season is:

BRIGHT

So of course, I had to pull out a favourite stamp set from The Stamp Market that allows you to get playful with the sentiment:

Digital paper: Crate Paper - Fa La La
Stamps: The Stamp Market - Merry & Bright (r)
Dies: Hello Bluebird - Holly and Pine, The Stamp Market - Jumbo Tag (r)

I had already cut the Jumbo Tag from Bristol card, so I just needed to select my ink colours and get stamping.

Selective inking with the aid of post-it notes to mask off the other letters of the sentiment is much easier if you use ink cubes.

And thankfully my original set of Color Crush cubes were still inky enough for this technique.

My mini Misti and the alignment sheet for it were handy for getting the sentiment lined up on the tag - I just didn't realise the tag had shifted when I stamped the B!

Never to mind.

I filled in the white space with the pine branches in the same set using Cactus ink, then added a festive bow from Hello Bluebird to the tag.

I had the other half of the paper sheet I'd used the other day from the digital paper pack of Crate Paper's Fa La La collection to use as a neutral background.

And finally, I added some of the new embossed sequins from The Greetery as a sparkly finishing touch.

December Elemental Inspiration - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

Well, the first Friday of the last month of the year has arrived, so it's time for a new elemental inspiration challenge over on the Daring Carmakers blog.

And here's the image we're using:

Alas I ran out of crafting time this week, so I had to dig into my card archives of this year to share something that would still fit the bill.

 

I originally created this card back in the summer for a different Daring Cardmakers Challenge, but I think it deserves a December outing too! The details for this make can be found here.

Sparkling Wishes - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

The Daring Cardmakers are back with a new prompt for the 2024 Countdown to Christmas.

This week's theme is:

Sparkle

Well, I had something in mind that was ready to have a touch of sparkle added to it.

Namely, one of the many Dotted Tree dies I have ready-cut in a little pocket in my Christmas stash.

Stamp: Hello Bluebird - Typed Christmas (r)
Die: The Stamp Market - Dotted Tree (r)

This die set from The Stamp Market has now been discontinued, but it's great for adding the optional stitched detail and some sparkly sequins.

Once my tree was done (complete with two tones of sequins and a clear seed bead), I created a snowy pink background with Distress Oxides and a splatter of white ink.

Before adding the tree, I stamped a simple (and very apt) sentiment straight onto my card from the (sadly discontinued) Typed Christmas set from Hello Bluebird.

Warm Wishes - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

The festive countdown continues over on the Daring Cardmakers blog this week, with the theme being:

WARM

So of course I thought about some kind of knitted accessory, and the cards I shared the other day reminded me that there was plenty more ephemera left in the Spellbinders Oh What Fun kit that would fit the bill:

This time, for the postage theme treatment, I used the Postage Stamps Cover die and coordinating stencil from The Stamp Market as the background.

This is a great addition to my postage supplies, and allows me to use bigger ephemera and images, but still go in with my various Postage Collage stamp sets to add lots of details.

Now that my first card with that cover plate and stencil is out of the way, I'm quite tempted to get more cards made in this look with all the ephemera still to use!

Jolly Crafty Christmas Time 2024 - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

It's the first Friday of a brand-new month, and as it's November, it's also the start of the 2024 Christmas countdown on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

To kick it off, we're starting an elemental inspiration challenge with this image:

The three elements I went with were candy canes, a tag, and kraft:

Paper: Crate Paper - Busy Sidewalks
Stamp: Avery Elle - Santa Tags
Dies: PTI - Tag Sale #3, Spellbinders - Oh What Fun kit

I started out by assembling the Santa from the Oh What Fun kit from Spellbinders, adding some Glossy Accents to that pink nose.

While that was drying, I stamped the sentiment from the Avery Elle Santa Tags set on a kraft tag.

It was at this point I realised I needed to purchase a reinker for my Versamark ink pad!

After assembling the tag, I grabbed from festive papers that I'd cut into last year to create the card base and stuck everything down.

As simple as that!

And simple is the way I'll be hoping to keep it for festive crafting here on out!

Art for Art's Sake - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

There's a fun new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog today set by Kathy, who wants us to celebrate Picasso's birthday and indeed International Artist Day by making a card inspired by an artist, artwork, or just art in general.

Well, I'm still chipping away at my Christmas cards, so I wondered how I could mesh the two together, and of course Vincent himself provided the solution with a rather rough and ready homage to The Starry Night:

Dies: Essentials by Ellen - Home & Hearth dies (r), Hello Bluebird - Hill and Dale, Poppy Stamps - Folk Star, Poppy Stamps - Townhouses (r), The Stamp Market - Jumbo Tag (r)

I started out by cutting the Jumbo Tag from Bristol cardstock and blending three shades of blue ink from the bottom up - leaving some white space at the bottom for the snow.

Then I cut the houses, stars, and snow border from the same white cardstock and added all the elements to the tag.

I then stamped the sentiment at the bottom in my mini Misti and added white pen details around the stars.

Once the tag was assembled, I attached it to the blue card base and added some Stickles over the top of the white pen details and along the ground for extra sparkle.

Wheely Good Fun - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

There's a fun new challenge from Joanne over on the Daring Cardmakers blog today where she would like us to feature something with wheels on our cards.

Well, this is the perfect excuse for me to finally photograph a set of cards I made back in April with the Winter Wonderland stamp and die set from Concord & 9th and a few other supplies for good measure.

I was seriously behind on my Christmas cards then, and made 11 or so cards in this batch and here's a look at some of them:

Stamps: Concord & 9th - Winter Wonderland
Dies: Concord & 9th - Winter Wonderland, Pinkfresh Studio - Notched Corner Frame
Stencils: Pretty Pink Posh - Layered Candy Canes, Pretty Pink Posh - Layered Snowflakes

This was the first outing for my Winter Wonderland stamp and die set, so I made a load of snow globes to feature the Let It Snow sentiment with the iconic red car + Christmas tree on the roof.

I created wintry backgrounds with the Layered Candy Canes and Layered Snowflakes stencils from Pretty Pink Posh on pink and aqua A2 panels.

And then used the Notched Corner Frame dies from Pinkfresh Studio for some layering.

When I ran out of cars, I created snow globes with the Winter Wonderland scene in different shades.

And once everything was assembled, I added some sparkly Stickles to the snow on the snow globes and to the stencilled snowflakes.

Furry Pet Friends - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

There's a new challenge over on the Daring Cardmaker's blog today, where Rizwana is wanting us to feature pets on a card.

Well, in an effort to use up bits of past scrapbooking collections, without cutting into new sheets, my card is a bit of a hodgepodge.

Paper and chipboard: Simple Stories - Dream Big (r)
Die: Waffle Flower - Lacy Squares

It features bits and pieces left from the Simple Stories Dream Big collection that were all ready to finally make it onto a card.

And there is even a magical looking kitty from one of the cut-apart sheets that I cut out then trimmed down using a stitched die.

All very simple, and finished off with some of the chipboard stickers and a bitt of glitter glue on the star accents on the kitty and background.

October Elemental Inspiration - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

So this week, it was my turn to choose the image for the Elemental Inspiration Challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

And as it's October, there had to be a hint of autumn in the air!

Here's what I chose via good old Pinterest:

The elements I went with were a book, autumnal orange/peach tones, and a few flowers for good measure:

Stamps: The Stamp Market - In My Book, The Stamp Market - True Story (r), WPlus9 - Heartfelt Holiday (r)
Dies: The Stamp Market - Book Die, Pinkfresh Studio - Notched Corner Frame

The perfect excuse for me to use the Book die from The Stamp Market that I've been coveting for ages and finally managed to snag here in the UK.

I cut the cover and spine details from Grapefruit cardstock and added some embossed details from the In my Book and True Story sets.

Then I cut an aperture in the cover using a Notched Corner Frame die from Pinkfresh Studio. I stamped the You are No. 1 sentiment in Dijon ink on Neenah and added more details from the stamp sets mentioned.

The green folksy branches at the bottom are from the Heartfelt Holiday stamp set from WPlus9 - that stamp has had so much use over the years, as it's just perfect for adding details here and there.

I needed a contrasting background for my book, so used Evergreen cardstock as the card background and added flowers and leaves from the Book die set in Rusty, Fern, and Rainforest, with Almond cardstock in the centres.

Leafy Lushness - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

It's my turn to set the challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog this week, so I thought it was definitely time for some seasonal crafting by putting the focus firmly on lush leaves!

Leaves come in many sizes, shape, and colours, and it's colours that I wanted to play with for my card:

Stamps and dies: The Stamp Market - Just Because STAMPtember 2019 (r), Waffle Flower - Birthday Wishes, MFT - Brush Splatter Background (r), Waffle Flower - Diamond Texture

I used the same leaf stamp from a Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember bundle by The Stamp Market and stamped it in 6 different (rainbow) shades of ink (all listed below).

In my cardstock scraps folder I have a pocket for background panels that need to be used up on something, these panels were made for previous projects but just didn't work out for one reason or another and have been waiting (sometimes years!) to finally be used.

Well, that time has arrived for the white Diamond Texture cover plate from Waffle Flower that I'd also stamped in light grey ink with the Brush Splatter Background from MFT.

After arranging all the leaves on the white panel, I stuck them down along the spine and the base of the leaves so that I could curl up the tips for a little dimension on the finished card.

I trimmed off the overhanging bits, then added a little dimension (which cardstock scraps) behind the leafy panel when sticking it down on my card base.

I wanted something bold yet simple for my sentiment, and the Birthday Wishes set from Waffle Flower has quickly become a go-to option.

Finally, I added clear droplets here and there in some of the white space to add a little balance.

On or At the Ball - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Happy Friday all!

This week over on the Daring Cardmakers blog, the challenge is all about balls - and not just the sporting variety!

Which suits me fine, because the first thing that came to mind was a grand ball of the Bridgerton type, providing me with the perfect excuse to go left field and create a card with an old Jane Austen stamp and die set from Papertrey Ink that has a bit of that Whistledown look to it:

I started out by grabbing a paper collection that goes so well with this set. It's an old one from Pink Paislee called London Market, and I also had the ephemera pack from this, so a good opportunity to use some of those many accents you get!

The frame and cameo are from the Simply Jane set, and rather than use cream, I thought a nice subtle blush pink would work well for the frame and backdrop to the cameo.

I just needed a fitting sentiment to complete the card, so of course had to use this regal one from Mama Elephant's Birthday Messages set.

And there we have it, card complete.

September Elemental Inspiration - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

Now that I'm back from my jaunt to Cornwall for a family wedding and holiday time, I'm back joining in with the weekly Daring Cardmakers challenges.

And as it's the first Friday of a new month, we have a new Elemental Inspiration challenge based on this image:

So the elements I went with were the peach and aqua tones, the actual peach fruit, and a tiled design:

I started out by covering my card base in the peach patterned paper from Crate Paper's Woodland Grove collection by Maggie Holmes.

It's a very busy paper design, so I wanted to create a way to make the sentiment stand out more.

Enter the Scalloped Window Frame from The Stamp Market. I had a small piece of Carta Bella paper that just about fit this die and featured a tiled line pattern similar to the tiles in the image.

I mounted the window frame on a Stitched Shaker Window frame, also from The Stamp Market, just to make the transition between layers smoother.

I kept the peach theme by stamping the Just a Note sentiment on the coordinating shadow die in peach ink.

Finally, I needed a little contrasting accent to finish off the card, so I cut the bow die from Hello Bluebird's Pine Boughs set using scraps of Concord & 9th cardstock in peachy tones.

And there we have it, card finished!

Summer Lovin' - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

The Daring Cardmakers blog has a new challenge this week on the theme of Summer + Love.

Kathy wants us to make a card celebrating the people and things we love with a summer twist, and that can of course include a love for summer in general!

Well, I certainly ran with that idea in order to creatively use some of the bits and pieces I have from an old Simple Stories summer collection:

Die: The Greetery - Curio: Divider and Details

I thought it would be fun to use the Curio Divider frame die from The Greetery to create a little summer montage by cutting the scaled down "pocket cards" and motifs in the 6x6 paper pad and adding extra elements from the coordinating sticker sheet.

I think I'm definitely going to use the Curio Divider dies for more cards like this in future, as it's a good way to make use of those more "scrapbooky" elements in paper pads that don't always work easily on cards, but deserve to make it onto a project!

August Elemental Inspiration - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

Unbelievably, we have rolled into August!

And with a new month comes a new Elemental Inspiration challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Here's the image we're working with:

The elements I've gone with are the handwritten theme (complete with fountain pen), birdcage, and a hint of blush pink:

I started out by grabbing a few papers from some old My Mind's Eye collections, including one called Follow Your Heart. I have to say, I really miss the quality of MME papers. They are super smooth, just the right thickness and stamp beautifully. Much crisper than the results you even get on "stamping" cardstock.

I used one of the PTI Round Off Edgers to cut the spotted paper at the top, adding postage elements from the Postmarks set from PTI. I used some Antique Linen ink on the postage stamp to age it a little.

The Pen Pal die from The Greetery is another nod to the handwritten text. I cut it from Concord & 9th Eucalyptus and some gold metallic card for the details.

Then finally cut and stamped the sentiment from the Sign Off Sentiments set by The Greetery.

Christmas in July - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

This week it's my turn to set the challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog, and well, I just couldn't resist another Christmas in July theme!

And indeed, it's yet another occasion for me to use my Waffle Flower Postage Collage supplies.

This time I've mixed them up with stamps (and coordinating dies) from Hello Bluebird.

Their US store has had a big blow out sale, as they are now moving exclusively to a kit format.

With their threshold for shipping orders to the UK being £135+ (since Brexit sigh), I wasn't able to grab some much coveted sets in the sale. But thankfully, one of their UK designers listed several sets in her eBay store that she no longer wanted, and the December Post set is one that was on my wish list.

I originally wanted it because I thought it would work well with the Postage Collage die and other mail themed supplies I have. So out came the Copics for the first bit of colouring in a looooong time!

Once the December Post elements were stamped, cut, and coloured, I grabbed the Postage Collage Coloring stencils to add solid blocks of colour to the Postage Collage die. While the stencil was still over the panel, I added a splatter of white ink for some wintry snow.

I used a mix of elements from the Postage Collage stamp sets listed below to fill in the background, stuck down the December Post elements, and added a sentiment from the Elegant Christmas 2 set.

I added some white pen details here and there, then used the Postage Collage Coloring stencils to add the airmail border in Lobster Red and Bubblegum inks from Lawn Fawn.

They Sky's the Limit - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

This week's Daring Cardmakers challenge is all about creating sky scenes. :)

Perfect for a Christmas in July take on the theme!

So, of course, I had to feature the wonderful Waffle Flower Postage Collage Snowmen again!

Paper: Waffle Flower - Season's Greetings
Stamp: Waffle Flower - Postage Collage North Pole
Dies: Waffle Flower - Postage Collage
Stencils: Waffle Flower - Postage Collage Snowman

I used a mix of Stormy Sky Distress ink and Lawn Fawn's Deep Sea ink for the sky.

Going over the arms and buttons with Black Soot, and while the stencil was still in place, I covered the openings for the faces and buttons, and splattered the sky with white ink - a veritable blizzard!

I then popped up the Postage Collage panel on the dark snowflake background from the Waffle Flower paper pad, and added one of the sentiments from the North Pole stamp set inside a Postage Collage die - adding Stormy Sky ink around the outside and some Wink of Stella for sparkle.

Finally, I added Twinkle Stickles to the buttons on the snowmen so they have a little sparkle when they catch the light.

Cheers! - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

There's a brand-new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog today, where Joanne has challenged us to raise a glass/cup of our favourite tipple.

Well, I am most partial (in cooler months - aka July 2024) to a hot chocolate with all the works. Especially a Black Forest hot chocolate!

And I am continuing on my Christmas in July crafting odyssey, so here's what I made:

Stencil: Pretty Pink Posh - Layered Snowflakes

I actually started out this card with the card base already covered in the pink cardstock that I'd previously blended with subtle pink Layered Snowflakes using the stencils from Pretty Pink Posh. I'd also already stuck the Notched Corner Frame down on it too - and at some point I's abandoned the card and it was sitting in my "to use" bin on my desk until this challenge came alone.

So I grabbed a few more items from that bin, namely the Waffle Flower Poinsettia Cluster foliage that didn't end up getting used for their release, and the Ribbon Maker Large Scallops border.

Once I'd cut and ink blended the Winter Mug elements that I wanted to use, it was just a matter of adding a fitting sentiment to the card and some finishing touches with Stitched Snowflakes from Lawn Fawn and some clay accents to the centres. :)

Fair warning, I think my Christmas in July projects will continue for a bit longer. lol

Happy and Bright - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Morning all!

There's a new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog today, where Rizwana is challenging us to embrace all things happy and bright!

And for me, that always means playing with some happy colours in ink form.

Stamps: Concord & 9th - Whimsical Wings, The Greetery - Sign Off Sentiments
Dies: The Greetery - Sign Off Sentiments, Pinkfresh Studio - Notched Corner Frame
Stencils: Concord & 9th - Whimsical Wings

In fact, this colour combination is a new one for me - or at least I think it is, since I so rarely use purple on my projects, except as little accents.

However, if I am going to use purple, then it's the plum ink trio from The Stamp Market that I gravitate towards.

Here I stencilled the outer floral stencils in the Whimsical Wings set from Concord & 9th onto pale pink cardstock, ready to add the butterfly wings in Pale Plum and Sugar Plum.

I ran the pink panel through my machine with the largest of the Notched Corner Frame dies from Pinkfresh Studio and mounted the panel on Eucalyptus cardstock from Concord & 9th.

Finally, I added a sentiment from The Greetery's Sign Off Sentiments set on ivory cardstock.

DCM - At the Beach

I enjoyed using the Nautical Notions and Ahoy dies from SugarPea Designs so much the other week, that I decided I needed to use them again, this time in combination with the Waffle Flower Postage Collage Beach Days stencil (for the seagull inside the ring) and the coordinating Beach Days stamps to add a little postcard look to this card.

I also used another great sentiment from the Waffle Flower Birthday Wishes set!

DCM - Pack Your Bags

Morning all!

There's a brand-new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog today.

Kathy has challenged us to feature any type of bag on our card, including (thankfully) a suitcase!

I really had to rummage in my stash for a bag of some sort - but phew! I happily found a chipboard suitcase from an old Crate Paper collection called Wonder, and I basically built the rest of my card around it!

Stamp: Flora & Fauna - Everyday Word Party 2
Die: PTI - Scallop Border (small/medium/big) (r)

In addition to all those elements from the Wonder collection, I added a little stamped sentiment from Flora & Fauna above the "LOVE" and used a wide scallop border die to break up the paper elements.

And of course, I was happy to find a coordinating enamel dot in my stash to complete the look.

DCM - June Elemental Inspiration

Morning all!

It's my turn to set the elemental inspiration challenge this month over on the Daring Cardmakers blog, and well I've gone for something that will hopefully be seasonal! ;)

Weather permitting!

For my card I took inspiration from the seaside theme, the colours, and the pattern elements:

And yes, it may very well be a shameless excuse to use my Waffle Flower Beachy Days stencils and stamps, but if I don't use them this time of the year, when else will I? ;)

I used a few different ink colours for the various elements, including two recently reinked blue shades from The Stamp Market that I may have overinked! Oops.

I even managed to cover up a stamping boo-boo (upside down seagulls) by covering that first attempt up with the lovely Birthday Wishes stamped sentiment.

And, of course, there had to be some traditional seaside rock-inspired stripes!

DCM - Showers and Flowers!

Morning all!

Over on the Daring Cardmakers blog, we're seeing out the month of May with a very appropriate challenge from Joanne!

In our part of the world, May has been somewhat unseasonal. Cold, wet, a bit of sun, but not exactly the gateway into summer... but all that rain has helped the garden grow.

So for this challenge I'm focussing on the result of the showers, and that's the flowers:

I of course had to use this opportunity to play with the Postage Collage Wild Flower stencils and other Postage Collage staple designs.

I've still not managed to grab the original Postage Collage stamp set to add the postmarks, etc. So once again I used an old discontinued set from Papertrey Ink for this.

The background colours to the different squares were coloured in using the existing ink on my blending brushes. So I just needed to elect some nice shades for the flower details and the border.

Then, once my card was assembled, I grabbed one of the sentiments from the new Birthday Wishes set from Waffle Flower. This really is a useful set with plenty of sentiments that will end up on a card for sure! Just nice to have some mixed-font birthday sentiments that get neatly cut out by a matching die.

DCM - M is for...

Morning!

There's an interesting new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog today, where you need to make a card on the theme of M is for...

Well, M is definitely not for murder... after a spate of crime-related podcasts and reads, the first thing that popped into my head when I read the title of this week's dare was murder. Ooops.

Thankfully, I quickly thought of an alternative - M is for multicoloured!

"Multicoloured" as a theme was a quick choice, as I have quite a few of these rainbow Popout Sunburst Panels still to use - they were created for a previous rainbow project, and so I paired one of them with some of the recent Greetery release. Namely, the Inflated Sentiments which works with the various circular elements of the Award Winning and Party Hat die sets.

I added a bright pink frame with Mama Elephant's Park Avenue set, and plenty of sparkly sequins as a finishing touch.

DCM - Postal Perfection

Morning all!

It's my turn to set the challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog this week, and well, I've been inspired by the current trend in postal themes.

I finally succumbed and have invested in my first Waffle Flower Postage Collage products.

So, hence this being the perfect excuse to give them a whirl!

Stencils: Waffle Flower - Postage Collage Coloring, Waffle Flower - Postage Collage Wild Flower

It was all because of those Wild Flower stencils! My resistance was still firm, but finally those wild flowers tipped me over the edge and I will no doubt be adding to my Postage Collage collection in due course.

I started out by stencilling light rainbow tones of Lawn Fawn ink inside the blocks of the Postage Collage die.

I then went in with a mix of dye inks to create the florals.

While they dried, I stencilled an airmail border around my card base and grabbed an old set of postage-themed stamps from PTI to add the postal details (as I don't have any Postage Collage stamps yet).

I wanted to include a handwritten looking sentiment that would pop out, so used the Everyday Greetings set from The Stamp Market for this.

To complete the look, I finally had the chance to feature the Pen Pal die from The Greetery. It's the perfect fit for the Postage Collage collection.

DCM - May Elemental Inspiration

Morning all!

There's a new elemental inspiration challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog this week, and Joanne's chosen this fab image for us to work with:

I was immediately drawn to the theme of handcrafted makes and well, here's what I eventually went with in terms of inspiration: Textured background, embroidery theme, wild flower

This design is actually one I created several years ago, but the nice thing about revisiting old supplies, is remaking something you've previously enjoyed with a few changes.

I went with a lighter palette this time for the leaf elements, and also included the daisy and bright green leaves from an Easter Egg set by The Stamp market to add a bit more of a summery vibe.

The little leaves in that set were a fun addition to the pink embroidery hoop, so it almost looks like an apple.

It's a shame those tiny tags dies have been retired, they are such a useful set, and I've recommended them to people a lot. Great for making collagey cards like this and adding little details like the twine and enamel dots as a finishing touch.

I also like the size of them for adding more compact sentiments that are on multiple rows, like the Mini Everyday Messages from Mama Elephant.

All in all, a nice way to use up cardstock scraps while still keeping things simple. :)

DCM - Something Old, Something New

Morning all!

The Daring Cardmakers are back with a new challenge today set by Miri, and it's a fun one!

Inspired by the saying Something old, something new, something borrowed something blue...

Here's what I made:

Paper: Crate Paper - Maggie Holmes - Woodland Grove, Crate Paper - Magical Forest
Stamps: The Greetery - Sign Off Sentiments
Dies: The Greetery - Sign Off Sentiments, Concord & 9th - Paper Bouquet, Mama Elephant - Oval Scallop Frames

• Something old: Magical Forest paper
• Something new and blue: Wooodland Grove papers
• Something borrowed: Paper Bouquet from an earlier project this week

Armed with that bouquet that was left over from a previous project this week, I went to town combining it with other elements, and indeed some underused colours in my paper collection. Mustard/citrine!

DCM - Cardmaker's Cake Recipe

Morning!

This week over on the Daring Cardmakers blog, Kathy has presented us with a challenge all based on the ingredients for a cake.

So you'll need:

• Flour (a flower or more than one if you like)
• Butter (the colour yellow)
• Sugar (use Glitter or other 'tiny sprinkly' stuff)
• Eggs (on oval shape, or a bird, nest, or something else egg related)
• Plus 2 ingredients of your choice if you wish

Here's my take:

Papers and chipboard: Crate Paper - Maggie Holmes - Garden Party
Stamp: Flora and Fauna - Everyday Word Party 2
Dies: Pinkfresh Studio - Notched Corner Frame, PTI - Scallop Border (medium) (r), Spellbinders - Fluted Classics Ovals

I used various paper scraps from my stash of Garden Party 12x12 papers and cut into the 6x8 pad for the green and spotty paper.

The black floral paper is cut with a Notched Corner Frame die from Pinkfresh Studio.

The ovals are cut with the Spellbinders Fluted Classics Ovals dies.

For the sparkly details, I added tiny sequins to the flower centres and also some Glossy Accents to others.

And it wasn't until I took photos of this card that I saw how wonky some elements were. Oops!

DCM - Round and Round

Morning all!

There's a fun new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog this week, where Joanne is challenging us to feature "round" things (so basically circles of any kind) on our cards.

Well, I'm still working through my little dish of die-cuts that haven't made it onto a project yet, and I thankfully found the perfect candidate with this embroidery hoop from The Stamp Market:

In fact, this card came together quite quickly, as I already had a card base covered in that striped paper in the ziplock bag with the rest of the Garden Party collection.

And I remembered that this collection included some lovely layered flower stickers that would look perfect in an embroidery hoop.

With a little more delving in the off cuts from that collection I also found the perfect size of paper to act as the backdrop to my embroidery hoop, and a label in the cut-apart journaling card sheet for me to add a stamped sentiment.

I still had the Large Scallop Ribbon Maker dies out on my desk, so simply created a white scallop border to create contrast between the papers.

And as a finishing touch, I added a little bow to the pansies from the It's a Wrap Mini Posy Pocket die set.

It was also a happy discovery to find that The Stamp Market's Citrine cardstock is a good compliment to the Garden Party collection. :)

DCM - April elemental inspiration

Morning all!

We've made it to Friday!

And as it's the first Friday of the month, there's a brand-new elemental inspiration challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog!

Here's the prompt we're working with:

The elements I went with were the colour palette, the droplets, and the florals:

I started out by stencilling and stamping the Spring Mix flowers on white cardstock, cut out with the matching dies.

I needed a pop of colour for the background and the Sea Glass cardstock from Concord & 9th was a great choice. The A2 panel is impressed with the Herringbone Parquet die and I then used kraft and the peacock fringe border to kind of create the look of a balcony planter.

Once again, the Sign Off sentiments provided the perfect sentiment accent that would stand out against all those colours.

And as a finishing touch, I added Glossy Accents to the flower centres.

DCM - Happy Easter

Happy Friday!

Over on the Daring Cardmakers blog, Rizwana is challenging us to create a card celebrating the Easter weekend.

Well, I had one last Easter card design in mind for this year, so this challenge came at the right time!

Papers: Simple Stories - Spring Farmhouse (r)
Stamp and stencil combo: The Greetery - Bunny Hop
Dies: The Greetery - Bunny Hop, Hero Arts - Infinity Nesting Rectangles, Lawn Fawn - Zig Zag Rectangle (r)

I started out by stencilling the Bunny Hop stencils onto Pale Rose cardstock, adding the stamped greenery, then cutting out the bunny wreath with the matching die.

Then it was time to add in details with coloured pencils, a black pen for the eyes and noses, and a white pen for the tufty tails.

I went round the houses a bit on what to use the pink wreath against.

But finally found some more rustic looking spring papers from Simple Stories.

I created a cream pinked edge background with the Zig Zag dies from Lawn Fawn, and layered up pink floral and blue gingham papers, adding some white paint splatter and ageing up the paper edges.

I then stamped the sentiment from the Bunny Hop set inside the bunny wreath on the same Pale Rose cardstock and that's the card done. :)

DCM - Spring is in the air!

Morning all!

It's my turn to set the challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog this week, and of course it had to be spring-themed! :D

Stamp, stencil and die combo: Pinkfresh Studio - Farm Fresh
Sentiment stamp: Hello Bluebird - Spring Banner Script
Dies: Pinkfresh Studio - Pretty Frames 2 (r)

This project was the perfect opportunity to pair the Farm Fresh stamp, stencil and die combo from Pinkfresh Studio with some older supplies.

I started out by creating a peachy watercolour wash with Saltwater Taffy and Fossilized Amber Distress Inks on water colour card.

While that was drying, I ran the Pretty Frames 2 die from Pinkfresh Studio four times through my die cutting machine with Marshmallow Cardshoppe to create a stack of frames for this card and future projects.

I doubled up each frame to create a pop of dimension and left them to try under a large acrylic block so they'd stay nice and flat.

Then I white-embossed the flower outline stamp on white cardstock and used the stencils to add colour.

Once die cut, I went back with Antique Linen Distress Ink and created a subtle wash around the outside of the embossed lines so that the white outline would stand out a bit better.

I then cut the jars from Pale Rose cardstock and blended some Saltwater Taffy ink around the edges of the textured jar.

I stamped the jar sentiment on a piece of left over watercolour cardstock that has the pink watercolour wash on it, adding a twine bow as a finishing touch.

Then I took a few of the white frames and arranged them on my watercolour cardbase.

I stamped the Hello Spring sentiment from Hello Bluebird inside the frame and then used the other jar die cut to help me arrange the flowers on the card before adding the sentiment jar over the top.

Finally, I added the pink flower and some sparkly sequins.
