Mother's Day wishes with Spellbinders Floral Reflection

Morning all!

It's Mother's Day here in the UK today and I'm popping in to share the card I made for my mum this year.

It features another Spellbinders set I picked up not so long ago in the sale.

I thought it would be a handy one for using up cardstock scraps to make pretty florals.

Alas, the lighting wasn't great when trying to get photos, but this card is a lot fresher looking in real life. :)

I used mainly scraps from The Stamp Market against that Sage background that is mounted on a light green cardstock from Bazzill.

I've got two more A2 panels of that cardstock to use on future projects, so you may see it again soon!

The sentiment is from a handy old set by Avery Elle and fits nicely on the strip from the Sentiment Suite Basics die set.

I added Glossy Accents to the blue flower centres for a little pop.

Festive Fridays: Time to Get Cozy

Morning all!

I'm back with another postage take on the Winter Wonder collection from Simple Stories, this time featuring some bears in apt attire for the festive season:

I wanted to give this collection the postal treatment again, but using a lighter hand for the stencilling on the Postage Stamps Cover die.

The colours turned out much better, and got their snowy splattering of white paint.

I selected a few stickers from the sticker book, and even tried to add some card pieces behind them to pop them up. But these paper stickers are rather thin, and I ended up having to unpeel them and stick them down onto 80 lb white cardstock so I could then go and fussy cut them to make the stickers more solid. Now you can't see through them.

I'll need to remember that for next time!

The postage look wouldn't be complete without some Waffle Flower Postage Collage stamps adding in the extra accents.

I also used one of the phrase stickers on the cardstock sticker sheet (no issues with thin stickers there!) to add a little sentiment.

Finally, I covered my card base with Comfy, Cozy, Cuddly patterned paper in the Winter Wonder collection to bring everything together and my card was complete.

Easter Wishes with The Greetery Bunny Hop

Morning all!

I'm back on the Seven Hills Crafts blog today with another Easter project - this time with supplies from The Greetery!

I absolutely love the new Bunny & Bows release that hit the shop last Friday. So many beautiful products for Easter, Spring, and beyond.

While looking forward to my order arriving, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to get some past Easter releases out on my craft desk again.

Today's card features the Bunny Hop stamp and stencil combo and coordinating die set as the main focal point.

This is a set I come back to every year to try my hand at a fresh take - I just love it!

Sentiment stamp: Memory Box - Big and Little Words (r)
Dies: Hero Arts - Infinity Nesting Circle (r), The Greetery - A2 Stitched Scallops, The Greetery - Let's Have A Word Easter

The 4-step layering stencils create the bunny circle and add the carrot and tulip details. You then just need to add the greenery with the wreath stamp and some little details to the bunny ears.

I finished off my die-cut wreath with a black pen for the eyes and noses, puffy paint for the cotton tails (I am definitely going to use the new Cotton Tail Pompoms next time), and coloured pencils to add shading to the carrots and flowers.

After grabbing some pale green cardstock to cut with the largest of the A2 Stitched Scallops dies, I cut the Let's Have a Word Easter die from ivory cardstock three times to give it some dimension. There are a few useful words in the Let's Have a Word series, including a Spring die.

To bring in some yellow spring tones, I cut a 3-inch circle of Spiffy Speckles patterned paper from Lawn Fawn and blended it with Lawn Fawn Butter ink. I positioned it behind the wreath, ready to add that Easter die-cut and a stamped sentiment from my stash.

Finally, I swiped the Butter ink pad along the edges of my white card base to bring all the elements together before assembling my card.

Festive Fridays: Layered Merry Christmas Foliage

Morning all!

For this week's festive foray, it's time to return to some layered stencils I purchased in the Spellbinders sale last year.

It's the last of the three Layered Foliage designs, the Layered Merry Christmas Foliage six-step set.

I knew I wanted to stencil this design onto coloured cardstock as I only have the stencils for this set, not the coordinating die that allows you to pop up the main sentiment.

So I thought pink would be a great choice for the background, and I remembered that I already had some pink cardstock ready cut to A2 size in a Spellbinders card kit I also picked up in the sale.

Well, this would surely be the perfect cardstock to use. Alas, no... this cardstock really rejected the inks I was using. :( I've only ever had that happen when trying to use Versfine on Bristol smooth cardstock... it took forever for the pigment ink to dry in that surface - lesson learned.

But here I was just using regular dye inks, nothing fancy - who knows why the two were just incompatible.

So there are a few smudges here and there and some messy edges, but even using a heat gun to speed things up, the ink just wouldn't dry on the surface.

It's a shame as the pink cardstock is a lovely shade, it's just not the right surface for ink.

Never to mind, I carried on through the layers using a mix of festive greens, pinks, and a touch of Dijon yellow - I'm really happy with how this combination of shades turned out.

But after that last step, I wanted to leave the panel to dry naturally at least overnight, so had to return to this project later to complete it.

So the next day, I looked at the panel and contemplated my options.

In the end I thought the only thing this card needed was some white highlights, and as I've been having trouble getting good and reliable results with a white pen, I thought I'd try simply adding some Dr Ph. Martin's Bleedproof white paint with a thin brush.

Well, I don't have the steadiest of hands when it comes to adding tiny details, but it'll do!

And onto a simple card base that panel went. But to add a little something, I used the Deco edge on one of my Corner Chompers to decorate the corners.

Happy Easter with the Lawn Fawn Easter Egg Background Stencil

I'm back on the Seven Hills Crafts blog today with another Easter card featuring supplies from Lawn Fawn's latest release.

This time it's the turn of the Easter Egg Background layering stencils.

For their first outing, I wanted to try out the stencils on a cream cardstock panel that I'd already cut with an edging die a while ago.

I thought some rainbow Easter eggs would work great on it.

So, I went in lightly with the inks for the first layer of solid eggs, and used the shader brushes from Waffle Flower to add the detail layer with the same ink colours.

Then I contemplated how I could use this pretty background, and in the end I decided to set the scene for my Easter sentiment.

I had one of The Greetery's Tear Strip Tags Spring sentiments ready to go, as I'd already cut it with the Tear Strip Banners die.

I grabbed the new Bitsy Blooms 6x6 paper pad (currently out of stock, but you can request a restock) and chose this lovely green floral paper to act as the grass, which I cut with the Grassy Border die, and some blue plaid paper to cut with the largest of the Stitched Scalloped Border dies from Lawn Fawn.

Like Christmas, I love combining older supplies with the new for my seasonal projects - and it never hurts to have a few staple and versatile products in your stash.

It's especially handy when you're short on time to have a few bits and pieces already stamped, cut, or coloured and ready to go!

Springtime Wishes with Spellbinders Coneflowers

Morning all!

I'm back with another Spring-inspired card.

No idea whether I'm on track or not, but I keep making the odd card here and there!

Today it's the turn of a layering stencil set I picked up in the Spellbinders sale earlier this year.

I wanted to test it out on coloured cardstock and well, here's the result:

I think the blue cardstock is from an old card kit, and it was smooth enough for the inks I blended over the Coneflower stencils to not bleed and seep into the card fibres - always nice, I hate when that happens!

I used a mix of Color Crush inks for the different layers, including Melon Orange for the dots on the flowers, which I later went over with a white pen.

The layout of the flowers reminded me a bit of the Springtime stamp and die set from The Greetery. So I thought, why not make a jumbo version of that scene with a bunny walking among the flowers.

The Bunny Kisses die was the perfect size for this, and another opportunity to use some puffy paint for the bunny's tail.

I just added a little envelope for the bunny to deliver those springtime wishes and some "soil" at the bottom with the Hill and Dale dies.

Once everything was assembled, I used my 1/2" Corner Chomper to round the edges at the top so it looks a bit like a terrarium.

Poppy Silhouette with The Stamp Market

Morning all,

Just popping in to share a recent make for a dear friend.

Dies: The Greetery - Fit to Be Tied, The Stamp Market - Poppy Silhouette, The Stamp Market - Postage Stamp, The Stamp Market - Tiny Tags (r)

I knew there was a flower die I wanted to use for this card, the Poppy Silhouette layering die from The Stamp Market.

I cut it from Arches watercolour paper and went to work, gradually adding watercolour layers with my Gansai Tambi paints.

Then I created the background with the Postage Stamp cover die from The Stamp Market on rustic cream cardstock, adding a splattering of purple water colour before going in and stamping the sentiments from the Big and Little Words set.

When assembling the poppy on the card, I added the mini sentiment from Mama Elephant on a Tiny Tag so it looked like it was tied to the stem with one of the Fit to Be Tied dies from The Greetery.

Finally, I added a little splattering of pearlescent white paint over the poppy.

Stencils: Pretty Pink Posh - Layered Snowflakes, The Greetery - Airmail Border

The Fringe Tree went right on my wish list last winter, when I saw it.

A perfect way to make a fun and impactful card with a bit of texture.

And the perfect way to combine different cardstock colours.

I went with Dijon, Blush, Cheeky, Fern, and Aspen from The Stamp Market and added a splattering of white ink to the tree before adding the star and trunk.

I also wanted a festive wintry background, so inked up an A2 panel of Neenah with Tumbled Glass and Salvaged Patina Oxides. Then went over it with Pretty Pink Posh Layered Snowflakes stencils using Seaglass dye ink followed by some spritzes of water.

It's a subtle effect, but you can see the snowflakes more clearly when tilting the card to the light.

I then added a splatter of white and pearlescent white paint to the background after cutting it out with the Diagonal Stitched Rectangle die.

For a bit more pink, I inked around my white cardbase with Blush ink, then went over it with the Airmail Border stencils from The Greetery using Blush and Cheeky ink.

Next I assembled all the elements and added the sentiment from the Winter Greetings set, finishing the card off with some clear sequins on the tree and some crystal sequins from The Greetery on the background.

Ombré Wishes with Lawn Fawn Easter Egg Backdrop

Morning all!

I'm back on the Seven Hills Crafts blog today with another Spring-themed project, this time featuring a few items from Lawn Fawn's latest release.

I had grand plans to use the new Easter Egg Backdrop die as intended, piecing in the different shapes behind the apertures in this wonderful frame.

But that plan changed!

When I was placing my die-cut panel over different pieces of patterned paper in the Rainbow Ever After 6x6 pad, to choose some Easter egg patterns, I absolutely loved how the pale pink frame I'd cut looked against the warm-toned ombré paper. It was just a perfect pairing.

So I decided for this card, I was going to keep things simple and let that ombré background do all the work.

But first, I needed to choose a sentiment for the centre.

I cut the new Scripty Easter Outline die from the same shade of pale pink cardstock as the frame and the Scripty Easter die from Concord & 9th Matt Gold cardstock.

Before assembling anything, I needed to find a "Happy" sentiment in my stash that would be a great fit for the space and would complement the scripty font.

Enter the Big Birthday Wishes stamp set from MFT. I've had this wonderful set for years. It was originally retired, but has been re-released from the Vault and is still available. It includes some very handy sentiments, a lovely mix of fonts, plus a stand-alone "Happy" in a solid font - just what I was looking for!

So now that I had all the separate elements for this card, I positioned them in my Misti so that I could line up the stamp where I needed it on the ombré paper and then heat-embossed the Happy in sparkly gold embossing powder.

Then it was time to assemble all the elements on my cardbase, using thin strips of foam tape to add dimension to the frame.

It's such a simple look, but I love the pops of colour peeking out through the frame.

Next time I use the Easter Egg Backdrop, I definitely want to piece some pretty patterned paper behind the eggs and flowers... but that's for another day!

Festive Fridays: Merry Christmas

Morning all!

For this week's card, I pulled out one of my first ever purchases from The Greetery: the Pine Blossom stamp and die set.

I do love a bit of stamp layering - I find it very relaxing and always a joy to see the different steps and layers come together.

I went with some wintry shades for the florals - one of my favourite colour palettes with The Stamp Market's inks and some Limestone ink from Altenew for an off-white look.

To create a focal point for the sentiment, I stamped it on the smallest die in the Nordic Circle set, cut from some off-white rustic looking cardstock I had in my scraps.

I used two of the sentiment banners from the Sentiment Suite Basics die set to add some Fern cardstock behind the sentiment and then assembled everything on a white panel cut with the largest A2 Stitched Scallops die and mounted on a Taffy card base.

As always, I used small scraps of card to add dimension behind the different layers instead of foam pads or tape - nice to use what you have and helps to keep your cards from becoming too bulky for easy posting.

Oh Happy Day with Concord & 9th

I'm back on the Seven Hills Crafts blog today with a fun card that takes me back to my stamping roots.

The Triple-Step Happy Day stamp and die bundle features a main stamped image that is broken down into 3 steps, allowing you to easily mix and match the colours you use for different occasions.

I absolutely love to get inky and play with different colour combinations, so it's a real treat to have a set that combines lots of solid images in the design to really let those colours shine.

The guide included for the stamps and dies gives you a good idea of where to start when selecting your colours.

The images in the stamps are also spaced out enough that you could make each element a different colour - I may try this when I'm feeling more ambitious!

But for today's card, I kept things simple.

I knew that I wanted to make the "happy" stand out using the matching outline die for this word, so I would need to stamp the full image two times to achieve that. But, I always love an opportunity to make life easier down the road when using a new set of supplies. So I actually stamped the main panel three times in the end, so I would have a template for future projects, making it easier to line up the stamps inside my stamp positioner next time.

I also die cut the larger flower pieces and stamped those to add a bit more pop.

And before cutting the "Happy" out with the outline die, I stamped the largest of the three hearts in the inside the letter "A".

Before cutting the panel with the scalloped outline die, I stamped the "Hooray" sentiment at the bottom, which then made it easier to position the die before cutting everything out.

To make that plain background to my card a bit more interesting, I added texture with the Sweet Plaid Texture die from Waffle Flower.

This is definitely a great bundle for combining with background stamps, stencils, and texture plates in your stash, and of course patterned paper.
