I'm up on the Seven Hills Crafts blog a little early this week with a project featuring the wonderful Takes the Cake collection from The Greetery.

I have definitely been getting my money's worth out of this product line since I snagged it at the end of April. I know it's quite an investment to get all the elements, but it really provides you with so many possibilities and now that I have a few looks under my belt (for milestone birthdays no less), I feel more confident about creating multiples of these assembled cakes so that they are ready to go when needed.
I had grand plans of trying some new colour combos, but nope, I couldn't drag myself away from aqua and pink tones with a hit of yellow!
But why work out of your comfort zone when there is no need to, right?
Here's a tip I have shared before for colouring the candles in the Takes the Cake die set, and it also works for the Mini Takes the Cake die set too:
If you stamp blocks of colour for the candles and flames first, it is much less fiddly to add colour to these rather delicate die cuts.
Plus, you will have the colouring ready to go the next time you need some candles.
I also never realised just how much I would love the Sparkler red rubber background stamp that was released with this collection.
I'm not a massive user of full background stamps, as they can be too busy when combined with the cardmaking elements I usually use. However, this background stamp is so unique. I had nothing like it in my collection, and as you can see with tone-on-tone stamping it provides a subtle look or can really stand out with other shades. I just love those little stars and sparkles - they stamp so beautifully and you don't have to re-ink a few times the way I find it necessary with more solid background stamps.
Let's just say the Takes the Cake collection and Sparkler background stamp haven't been put away with my other supplies yet - they are still in the "new products" bin on my desk ready at hand for a new project.
