Good morning!
It's time for a brand-new prompt to welcome July and here's the image to inspire you:
This month's focus colour is: Yellow
And here are some ideas to get you started:
- Lemons: There are some great punny sentiments out there for lemons, like "When life gives you lemons, make a G&T" or stick with lemonade as the tipple of choice. In fact, any citrus or fruit theme will do. There's even a banana featured in the image disguised as an ampersand.
- Anything but black for your sentiment: If black ink is the colour you always reach for, try swapping it out with Navy, Grey, or any vibrant colour. You could even go with a bright yellow as your sentiment colour. And it doesn't have to be a stamped sentiment - dies would work really well here to add that pop of colour.
- Circular patterns: doilies, large polka dots, lemon slices, a bold print that looks circular would work so well as a background. This circular pattern in the image also reminds me of lace, so you could always incorporate lace trim as a border detail.
- Sun/moon: Use ink blending/masking techniques to create a sunburst or lunar background.
- Painterly style: Create a wash with watercolours or inks, use brushstroke stamps to replicate paint, or even go to town with splatter. You could also use the circular paint point as a springboard to create apertures with pops of different colours peeking out. And of course, a great excuse to use that old favourite "You colour my world!" sentiment.
- Wood: That striking yellow door reminds me that woodgrain texture dies/embossing folders can be used with colours other than brown/kraft. Think of all those bright beach huts you see, you could channel the beach with shiplap style boards.
- Pot plant: If you're usually all about florals, why not try creating a look that focuses more on foliage, e.g., hanging plants, succulents, cacti, tropical leaves, or just leafy stems arranged in a watering can, plant pot, mason jar, or crate.
- 5 o'clock somewhere: Champagne bottles, cocktails, "Cheers!" as a sentiment to congratulate someone.
- Butterflies: These would definitely work well in yellow combined with other colours featured in the prompt.
- Write it down: Feature something that writes, such as a typewriter, pack of crayons/pencils, even a phone screen showing a sentiment. Or choose a sentiment that looks like it's handwritten/typed.
Happy crafting!
