DCM - Cut it up!

Morning everyone!

Here are the details for this week's challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog:

Now, usually this challenge would be right in my comfort zone, after all patterned paper is something I totally love.

BUT as you'll have seen from my recent card projects I've not used it all that much of late and well, I ended up having a mental block after dragging out lots of paper candidates from my storage bins and folders, leafing through collections, and just having to put them away as no creative light bulb was going off!

So I decided to just focus on one piece of paper.

In fact one piece of paper I've loved for ages ever since it came out.

I'd already cut into the 12x12 sheet a while ago, made a few cards, but it was high time to revisit this paper and cut into what was left.

The end result was this card...

I love the A-side and B-side of this paper so I'm happy to report I could also use a sliver of an off-cut for the contrasting background to that pale pink bird pattern. No wastage here!

Also I went a bit off the usual track and decided to use something other than a neutral shade for my embossed sentiment. Pesto cardstock from Hero Arts (what's left of my sampler pack is most handy for sentiment strips).

It went really well with the green hues in the paper, and as a contrast to the Willow Lane ephemera and October Afternoon button I used. :)

Hopefully the next time I reach for patterned paper it will go much smoother! hehe

Such a stunning card and what a gorgeous design. This would be a paper pack I would need to keep aside for those special cards.
