Morning!
This week's challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog sees the return of our monthly elemental inspiration prompt, this time picked by Ruth. :)
I actually managed to get ahead with some crafting last weekend while away at a crafty retreat with friends. I just need to photograph all my makes at some point, I mean I've still not blogged this year's Easter cards! :oO
But here's my interpretation of the image - I went with an ombré effect, tried to replicate those pink golds in the image with white text, was inspired to use a cut out greeting after seeing that monogram A, and the ink splashes and water spots are inspired by the stars:
Dies: Lawn Fawn - Mini Pop-Up Butterflies, MFT - Happy Birthday to You, Lil' Inker Designs - Silly Stitched
Other: Distress Oxide inks, dye inks, embossing tools
I started off by cutting a 4.25" x 5.5" panel of Neenah 110 lb cardstock and using the biggest Silly Stitched die to add a little interest around the edges.
Then I set about blending Tattered Rose and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxides into each other to create an ombré background. Once I was happy with the blending I used that fab piece of 1960s mountboard I inherited from my grandfather's art supplies to hold my card background while I flicked a mix of yellow, pink, and orange watered-down Lawn Fawn ink onto the background and alternately sprayed with water and dabbed the Oxide inks away.
I also created another background panel by just smushing the the two pink Oxide shades and Fossilized Amber on a blending mat and spritzing the ink with water and dabbing the cardstock into the mix. I just kept repeating this and drying in between layers. The background piece also got the ink spatter treatment. Most rewarding!
Finally, I cut the sentiment and butterflies into the top background panel and just borrowed some rose gold embossing powder from a friend to create the butterfly bodies. I may have to get some rose gold embossing powder now after using it at the weekend. It was the Altenew rose gold, but neither of us were that convinced it was a true rose gold. The search continues!
This will actually make a nice flat card to send, but it really does come to life when those butterfly wings are popped out to reveal the background colours below.
I rather like this layout too, so may try it with some other colour combinations of oxide inks. :)
Make sure you check out the wonderful card ideas from the Design Team, and join in if you can!
