2018 card challenge - February card

I suppose it's quite apt that despite having made this card weeks ago, it's taken the Beast from the East to make it seasonally appropriate!

Because my take on the February geometric shape prompt has taken a festive turn, and I made my first Christmas card of 2018!

Die: Concord & 9th - Joy
Stamp: Altenew - Socahtoa
Other: Misti

I wanted to make a very clean and simple stamped background using just one triangle stamp - with the aid of the Misti I managed to make it more evenly spaced and straighter than I would have done freehand! And to keep that clean and simple look, I used my favourite festive word die from Concord and 9th which I cut several times from red cardstock to layer up. Also the little triangles are almost Christmas tree-like.

There's always something very appealing about aqua tones combined with a pop of red.

It's time for a new challenge tomorrow!

Take a break

It's been a busy old work week for me so not much crafting done on the evenings other than a little OCD organising, aka starting a stamp and die inventory so I can find things easier (especially for sentiments).

But last weekend I had some time to get a few cards made, including my card for this week's Daring Cardmakers dare.

Our challenge is inspired by your usual morning break tipple or treat.

Well, I'm not much of a coffee or tea drinker unless they're in iced form and I don't have hot chocolate all that often at home, but I always have a glass of Robinsons Barley on the go (in fact I have about 7 different flavours in the cupboard right now - blueberry and pear the current fave, but wish they'd bring back raspberry and orange which was a limited edition a few years ago). Anyway, yep a nice fruity drink and my favourite of all - still raspberry lemonade inspired this card:

And you may spot that the Big Top background stamp is having it's 3rd outing in a row for the Daring Cardmakers challenge. That's the last of the prestamped backgrounds I made. I tried a fair few other backgrounds when making this card, but in the end the yellow background looked the best with this tag I made and well, the yellow frame was definitely needed!

It's nice to use some spring colours - I hardly ever use yellow, but things may be changing. :)

Home sweet home

Well, this week over on the Daring Cardmakers blog our theme is Cosy Home!

Another excuse for me to use one of the pre-stamped backgrounds I'd made last month with the Big Top background stamp from WPlus9.

Don't worry, I only have one more pre-stamped background left to use up before I need to make more. :)

February element challenge

With it being the first Friday of the month, it's time for a brand new elemental inspiration challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Here's my take on it:

Yep, there was some very old stash that made it onto this project, in fact it must be going on 10 years old now! While I was reorganising my Alex unit to house this particular delivery...

...I had a little sort out of the entire unit that houses my ink collection, and one of the rediscoveries that was still fit for purpose was the box of 3D Zots from back in the day - a nice alternative to foam tape that I'll be using until they're gone! Still sticky and not yellowed, unlike many other strip/tape adhesives I still had for scrapbooking including the photo corners from Xyron which were no longer sticky and had all gone yellow. Glad I hadn't used those in an "archival" scrapbook!

ut anyway, back to the project - my elements were the flamingo, the use of blush pink and a fancy/bold font!

When I first used the Big Top background stamp from WPlus9 I stamped a few backgrounds in different colours with my Misti while the stamp was out, so this pre-stamped background came in handy!

The stamps have had their first outing, I received them free with an order from Ellen Hutson for some other exclusive dies.

Anyway, expect to see more of those pre-stamped Big Top backgrounds, I have another card coming up with a different colour combo. ;)

2018 card challenge - February prompt

Morning everyone!

Hard to believe we've survived January and are now into a brand new month.

This month's design element is:

Geometric shapes

Shapes that have never really gone out of fashion - in fact triangles and really geometric designs are so on trend at the moment.

So think about:

• Circles
• Triangles
• Squares
• Hexagons
• Mosaic effects
• Apertures
• Creating geometric patterns
• Using ready-made geometric prints in the form of patterned paper
• Geometric borders
• Using masking tape to create random geometric shapes for a blended background
