This week over on the Daring Cardmakers blog our dare is sponsored by the very generous Caroline over at Bubbly Funk, a UK store specialising in stencils - not only did the design team get to pick a stencil to play with for this challenge, but there's also a fantastic prize up for grabs if you join in!
The stencil I went for was this one from Hero Arts called Bubble Confetti:
I thought it would work great for Christmas backgrounds, but also some everyday cards too!
Oh and it gave me ideas for using a rainbow of colours:
Stencil: Hero Arts - Bubble Confetti
Glitter paper: Heidi Swapp
Dies: WPlus9, Avery Elle, Lil' Inker Designs, PTI
Enamel dots: Teresa Collins
Other: 3D foam tape, twine
I originally intended to use texture paste to create a snowy background... then I thought about simply blending a few shades of Distress Ink in to create an ombre look... but in the end I wanted to add colour to individual rows of bubbles and did just that!
I washi-taped the stencil down onto a piece of white cardstock and used little pompoms I had in the drawer from the days of chalking trends to apply 7 different shades of dye ink row by row. I masked off the adjacent rows with post-it notes and tape to make sure the ink from the other rows did not bleed in when blending the next colour. It also made it easier to clean off the remaining ink with a tissue as I went.
I couldn't help but go for a rainbow background and the glitter paper for the die-cuts really helped lift them off the card a bit more.
There are some really creative ideas and techniques from the design team over on the blog so check them out along with the fab prize!
