52 Cards challenge 2014 - Week 14

Morning everyone!

I hope you've managed to adjust to the start of British Summer Time!

The one good thing about the clocks going forward right now is that it's easier (in theory) to get decent daylight shots of projects before heading off to work. ;o)

This week it's the return of the photo inspiration prompt.

Here are a few things to kick start your creating thinking:

• Clean and Simple design
• Herringbone/chevron pattern
• Muted/natural tones with one bold colour
• Real wood effect background
• Use a stencil/stencil techniques (original pic is created from a stencil)

So as for me, I went with the herringbone background as my main inspiration - and this is the Mother's Day card I made for my own mum, having made quite a few this past week for card commissions:

That Avery Elle Handwritten Notes stamp set has had a fair bit of use this week, eh? :)

And on the topic of Mother's Day - ma and I had a very nice but rather shattering outing to the Metrocentre and IKEA, polished off with a good old burger at Gourmet Burger Kitchen:

So good, but boy oh boy was the walk back to the car a difficult one!

Yet again we had spent something like 3 hours in IKEA, and left with the usual... serviettes, tea lights, washing up scrubby and zip lock bag restocks!

However, I did come away with a new storage container for my stamps, and the two smaller boxes in the set are great for storing 6x6 pads.

These Notudden baskets were in the bathroom section and are pretty durable compared to the cardboard CD storage boxes. They are those ones made from a durable fabric that zip diagonally at the bottom to assemble. I have some cream ones in my Hemnes chest of drawers in the bedroom, but I loved this print and they are really handy looking. The baskets will definitely do for now for my stamp collection, if it needs rehoming again I shall just move these baskets to my Hemnes drawers to store chargers, etc.

Well, I had best log off, as I think an early night is definitely in order after today's shenanigans!

Money makes the world go round...

Goodness me, the that time has certainly rolled around quick again!

The Weekend is upon us! Yay!

It's Friday! Yay!

And that means it's a brand new dare on the Daring Cardmakers Blog! Yay!

It's Svenja's turn to challenge us this week and our theme is all about money, money, money!

Make a money-themed card, e.g. for money as a present, use coins or banknotes or money-elements on your card or even invent your very own currency!

So I already had a good idea of what I wanted to use on my card, a gorgeous stamp I'd bought from a friend intending to use it lots and lots and well... here it is on its first outing I believe:

I must have stamped this about a dozen times in different colours, ink types, and on different backgrounds, but it was either too dull or clashed too much with the paper collection I wanted to use. So the end result is a very subtle impression stamped with Prima pastel peach chalk ink on cream card:

Other: Distress Stickles, fabric trim, silk ribbon, lace and flower and rosette elements from my fab mystery egg box by Ang.

You can just about make out that bank note in the background right? My scraps of that fab arrow paper from Basic Grey are almost gone now. It has made an appearance on many a project - think I can squeeze out one more with it though!

Well, it's a crafty night for me at our crop tonight, hoping to restock some of my Easter cards as they have all sold for Macmillan... :)

I wanted to try out my new Handwritten Notes stamps by Avery Elle on something and also yet again, pulled out Coming Up Roses as I already had the die cuts to hand, just hadn't stamped them yet. Most of the papers are from my 6x6 pad of Flea Market which

I still need to make my Christmas Cracker for this sketch, but will hopefully have chance very soon! It's a busy cardmaking week getting a few custom cards made for friends and family to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Care at our crop on Friday.

I know how my evenings will be spent this week. ;o)

Crafting away...

Friday night I started on a little project in order to sell some of my cards to friends and family in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care. It all came about because of the cancer awareness selfies popping up on Facebook urging friends to donate to the various cancer charities. After sharing my no-make-up selfie there and making a donation I thought it would be good to do a bit more as every little helps. :)

No one could ever accuse me of being a speedy crafter, but I am hoping there will be enough in my card basket to tempt some folks to parting with some money.

But I can at least share the first custom-made card that has gone off to a new home, a welcome excuse to play with my new WPlus9 stamps and dies:

It makes a real change for me to have so much white space on a card - but I filled it up quite a bit with those fab birthday balloons, and I tried that embedded die-cutting technique, rather like how it turned out. Oh and there was a request for a cat theme, so those My Cute Stamps came to the rescue again - I love that little kitty cat. :)

In other news, it's been a rather busy time with work, so no thrilling photos to share, but here are some random bits and bobs.

I have been unwinding with the aid of my L'Occitane almond shower oil and other almond goodies I got for Christmas from my mum - especially loving the foot cream! Heavenly!

Banana bread made a return to the dessert menu, served hot with custard as a pud - yummo!

There's not been much chance to get into my current book, but I am plodding away and no doubt when I am in the right head space and in the reading zone I will get into it so much that it'll be unputdownable.

The baking bug hit again, and I invited the parentals round for tea and...

Blueberry muffins!

The spring sunshine has been much enjoyed, not least by Kizia who spent a lot of the sunnier days out the front of my mum and dad's warming herself on the heated path and wall.

And it hasn't been my imagination, the strange cat from a few doors down who ambushed me a few weeks ago has been hanging around and generally stalking me! My flower trough by the front door has definitely been dug out a few times, and I found the cat flap in my back door had been forced through despite being blocked from the inside with a cover panel. I've also had strange noises of something walking on the conservatory roof - thought it was a jackdaw or something, but who knows now... he is a very strange cat, all sweetness and light but when I was trying to get in the house he embedded his claws in my backside and tried to get inside with me... I hope this is not going to be a regular thing. Have never experienced anything quite like it in my life!

Last but not least, I managed to get to Hobbycraft yesterday armed with my list of Gutterman threads I needed to restock and get additional colours. Sadly, they have discontinued two of my favourite aqua shades, one is pictured above - the darkest one. Sad times - the nearest aqua shades they had I bought - also in the picture but they are not as vibrant unfortunately... Oh well, I definitely have enough pink/peach shades to keep me going for a bit!

Right, best get my stuff sorted for tomorrow...

Do-die-licious

This week over on the Daring Cardmakers blog we have a challenge sponsored by Do Crafts.

The design team were lucky enough to receive some goodies to play with that included X-Cut dies and in my case some Gorjuss die-cuts and papers.

The theme of this week's dare is to focus on die-cuts - preferably X-Cut brand if you have them.

The set I used for my card are these border dies:

Other: black and plain vellum, bling, pearls, Glossy Accents, 3D foam

I layered up my card using papers and elements from the Gorjuss collection, the silhouette background actually features another Gorjuss girl on it, but I really wanted to feature one of the die-cut girls - so I layered those elements and mixed and matched the oval frames. The label was the perfect size to add a PTI stamped greeting, and I raided my felt stash for shades that would go well with the black and blue of the Gorjuss range.

I made a happy discovery and found I still had a sheet of black vellum that must be nigh on 12 years old now! The border dies cut perfectly in the vellum and I also used the vellum to hand-cut some leaves for the felt roses and then punch some butterflies to complement the butterflies in the silhouette background image.

The design team have really come up with some fab projects to showcase the X-Cut dies. Do check them out!

Make the Day Special colour challenge

I love colour challenge, and decided to give this lovely palette a go the other night for the Make the Day Special challenge:

I used some of my existing Avery Elle items from the store - namely Oh Happy Day for the greeting, and the Laurels dies to cut the felt flower and leaves. I die cut an aperture in the patterned paper tag, then matched up a lighter section of the same paper to create a shadow box style. Love a bit of aqua paper from Crate. ;o)

Well, lucky for me my order of shiny new Avery Elle and WPlus9 stash arrived from Make the Day Special today so I'm hoping for a little play tomorrow evening.

52 Christmas Crackers 2014 - Week 12

Well, I wonder how you are all doing with the challenge of using this image and all its spring colour finery:

A tough one eh? But as you can take what ever colours and shades of colour from the image is your guide there's a lot of scope.

This week I took a break from red and the more traditional shades.

The yellow paper is from a 6x6 pad by Crate Paper - it's not from a Christmas line, it's just a lovely golden yellow pattern fit for a star. I made the greeting pop a bit more with some lovely yellow enamel dots. I don't think this card would be out of place at Christmas just because I've used Spring colours on it, do you?

52 Cards challenge 2014 - Week 12

Morning folks!

Hope you had a lovely weekend. :) It's time for another colour prompt and I went off in search of a palette that really encompassed some pretty spring shades.

Use any combination of shades and colours depicted below - if you can create a card that really depicts that spring feel all the better!

Finally having enough dye inks in my stash to pull off this style, I managed to get the branches more or less straight by marking guidelines with a pencil beforehand. Previously I stamped these using chalk ink and as you know I am a wonky stamper if left to my own devices! I stamped the branches in Adirondack Lettuce (I still need a green ink that is between Lettuce and Willow though), then stamped single flowers in Peach Bellini, triple flowers in Lemonade, and the berries in Salmon pink. The greeting is from an Easter egg set by WPlus9 - still need to stamp those eggs! And I finished off the stamped bunny with some Frosted Lace Stickles on his tail. I really love combining those branch stamps with Easter themes as I think they go so well together. :)

Fairy tales can come true...

Miri has set a wonderful challenge this week on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Today happens to be Ludwig Emil Grimm's birthday, among his many artistic accomplishments he illustrated many of his brothers' fairy tales and stories.

So in celebration of his birthday our theme this week is fairy tales - whether you make a card inspired by an actual tale by the brothers Grimm or feature images associated with fairy tales on your card.

Now my inspiration came in various forms.... I did a bit of mooching through the list of the very many tales the brothers Grimm compiled but I also found this lovely article (it's in German - but the illustrations do the talking), check out all 15 of the illustrations that incidentally are included in the English publication being presented. It looks like a fantastic book.

Now, I wonder if you can guess the inspiration for my card...

Well let's just say there are two fairy tales rolled into one here.

Plus there is another Snow White in fairy tale land, and she has a sister called Rose Red.

I happened to have that tale to hand in the box of Ladybird books that I still need to finish sorting through:

I used to always get confused as to why there were two Snow Whites! lol

Got to love those Ladybird illustrations. :)

January 2014 album

Before I get on with a few hours of work, I thought I'd finally share some pics of my January album entries. So difficult to get decent photos of your pages in pocket scrapping without taking it all out, but for ease this time I photographed everything in the pockets and I'm not so bothered about the photos - they're of nothing particularly exciting or thrilling. Just the day-to-day... the things that made me happy in January feature a lot (I do love pics of inanimate objects it has to be said). ;o)

Anyway, here we go - five pages is probably a bit much for one month, but hey, I was just finding my feet in this whole pocket scrapping thing. ;o)

Page 1 - all about New Year's day - it involved a lot of walking from morning through to the afternoon:

I'm using the desktop calendar I received for Christmas from my mum as the monthly feature across the year. Very handy, and nice to be able to keep the calendar some how. I've done this before with mini-albums documenting a year so carried it over to my 2014 album.

While Lola was staying we still managed a nice walk or two even though I was working from home:

Very glad to have finally found a use for this little lady - not that I bear any resemblance to her, but it's nice to use up all the left-overs from a chipboard set some how:

I used journaling cards for all the entries on this page:

I even resurrected some very old Making Memories tags which will get used throughout the rest of this album no doubt!

Page 4 was all about the things that made me happy in January:

Including finally unpacking the lovely Orla bedding set I bought in TK Maxx last year:

And the last page is something I hope to feature every month - a record of movies seen, books read, that kind of thing:

Can't believe I only read one book in January - February will be a very different matter!

Saturday round-up

Well, it's been a while since I posted any non-crafty pics. :)

Nothing exciting has really happened this week, I've been working from home since Tuesday as I still have lots of work going on. But Monday I managed to pop into TK Maxx in hopes of finding some of the new AC products reportedly doing the rounds. No crafting stash at all in my TK Maxx local (which was very unusual) but I did see these fab pigeon holes:

There's no where I can put them, but they were awfully nice looking!

Tuesday night I popped over to my mum and dad's for pancakes - the last Pancake Tuesday in my mum's old kitchen. :)

Can't beat Nutella for a sweet pancake. :D My savoury favourite is Jambon-fromage from my days in Grenoble. Yummy!

So aside from the crafting I've also been enjoying some telly and reading a new book, which I finished in the very early hours of this morning having woken up at 2 a.m. and was still wide awake at 5 a.m. when I finished said book. Then I watched some TV on amazon prime on my iPad and finally fell asleep at 6.45! The lie in did not work out so well... but I'm hoping I can make it until this evening before drifting off.

Especially as I now have these lovely items arrived from Sarah's Cards ready to play with this weekend:

Got to love a month off from council tax and the water bill as it allows a little selfish spending. ;o)

So a little show and tell:

Some lovely packets of Basic Grey Basics enamel dots. They are just lovely colours, especially loving the kelly green and aqua combo, and the seafoam in with the navy. :)

I decided to take the plunge and purchase some more of the Oh Darling collection by Crate as I've loved using the papers from this line I already have, and fingers crossed the quality will be fine. I went for the 6x12 stickers (includes mini alpha stickers), the ephemera pack, the chipboard pack, and the journaling cards - I looked at these to see how much was really about kids/little girls and most of the cards are really versatile and will work with other everyday stuff. :)

A little restock of some of the Crate papers, plus the Styleboard journaling cards for my collection, and a set of teal alpha stickers by Elle's Studio that I absolutely love - you get 300 stickers on the sheet and the colour is just perfect - a bit less blue than in the pic above. Gorgeous!

And finally some more papers and stickers.

• 12x12 alpha sticker sheets by Basic Grey - think this is a great option for extra colours - 6 alphabet sets to a sheet and a good size for pocket scrapping.
• A selection of Basic Grey Mon Ami papers and the 12x12 sticker sheet - shame there weren't more embellishments in this line - just stickers as far as I could see.
• A couple of sheets from Basic Grey Capture - love the blue and green one - great for spring!
• And a sheet from MME Now and Then (navy stripe) and those lovely hearts from Elle's Studio. MME paper is so expensive these days that I can't splurge on it especially if the other side isn't something I totally love. But I think I'll get a good few cards from that navy stripe sheet!

Anyway, time to get the stash sorted into its new home and grab some lunch before starting my playtime. :)

March colours over at DCM

This month it's Zuz's turn to choose our colour palette over on the Daring Cardmakers blog, and what a lovely selection it is too, I have a real fondness for peach and aqua tones but these are much zingier:

In fact I thought it the perfect excuse to drag out one of my favourite MME paper collections and finally try out my Paper Smooches Hello dies:

I tried to use two tones of aqua on the die-cut greetings along with that bright green and all those zingy orange enamel dots.

A study in grey

The current challenge over on the CAS-ual Fridays blog is called "Shades of Gray" or grey over here in the UK. :)

Well I am loving all things grey at the moment, especially when teamed with aqua or peachy shades - or both!

Here's the card I made with some left-over stamped roses, loving that Coming Up Roses set by WPlus9 - my most used stamp set of 2014 so far!

• Wood - not just real wood, but perhaps woodgrain patterns, branches, trees.
• Plastic - no doubt you have plenty of plastic embellishments to choose from - buttons, pearls, etc. but also think about using acetate as an option.

Almost Monday and back to the grind

It's been a busy couple of weeks and this one looks to be the same, work has been really busy and I've been working from home plus working extra hours to get everything done, so I have neglected to blog and share what I've been up to when not working.

So I've been out a good few times to Chiquitos - yum!

Had a fun games night with Zoe and the girls:

Finished a book I started and have to say it's been the best book I've read so far this year (and probably will be for a bit... )

The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty - big recommendation to try it!

Enjoyed a break from work last Thursday to go and celebrate Tlusty czwartek (Polish Mardi Gras) at the parentals:

And apart from that I've been watching some telly in the evenings - yay Silk is back!

And at last it looks like Spring is coming around, the days are getting noticeably longer and the sun was actually shining and heating up the kitchen on Friday:

Today I've had a work-free day so it's meant I've been able to catch up with crafting for next week as well as my 2014 album, well I'd only had chance to get my January photos printed so have finished those now:

And now I'd best go and rescue my dinner in the oven!
