Finishing a good book is such a bittersweet event. Whilst reading you can hardly keep up with your desire to turn the page to see what happens next, and as the fantastic climax looms you just want to slow down because you know you're coming to the end...
I always feel somewhat bereft when I turn that last page, as though it's saying goodbye to that alternate universe, that fantasy world I've been temporarily transported to... perhaps it's because reality can hardly live up to these stories and "happy ever after" endings... but a girl can dream! :oP
So it's with a tinge of sadness that I've now added The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella to my Just read list... fab read, and I only started yesterday on the way to Whitby, a few hours last night, a bit on the bus today, and finally finished just now. :o( So now I am in my "just-read downer" state (this is where the proverbial chocolate endorphin release should nicely kick in!), it's meant I've had to pick yet another chick-lit book to start on... I'm afraid I just can't face a serious book at the moment, I really did want to make a start on The Historian. So I've gone and selected one of my recent Bookcrossing acquisitions: Smart Mouth by Erin McCarthy. First one of her books I'll be trying but was recommended by someone who also liked Jennifer Crusie and Rachel Gibson so I look forward to it!
After this morning's power cut I hope my alarm actually goes off tomorrow morning... lol I didn't get the strains of breakfast radio slowly coaxing me out of sleep this morning, oh no... just 20-odd alarms from neighbouring houses blaring out for half an hour as the power cut tripped their emergency setting... Suppose it's one way to wake up and realise the bank holiday is well and truly over... LOL
